Making people pay to play would bring the numbers down a lot even if it was a dollar. Not many people would do this because they would have to get paypal or make a money order. Also, most of the players are teens from 13 - 18, why would they want to pay? Money order isn't that fast but paypal is but you need a credit card. I have a credit card and I am a teen but even though I have the requirements, I wouldn't pay. Maybe on the perfect version but not now. MTA isn't ready for this yet.
I agree, its not perfect, but as I've said, MTA would always be free, there could just be some servers that you need to be a paid member to join... that way people who are more serious about MTA, and not cheaters can play without worrying so much about cheaters.

that would allow someone to just reg a hotmail account with fake details... why not use the e-mail address that your ISP gives you? this way, no one can get a fake one of them.

You suggested that it'd be hackable... I'm not sure how this could be the case... Just have a paypal account, when the email arrives saying its been paid just add it to a database automatically. I think if we can make MTA, a simple email checker isn't going to tax us too much ;)

Anyway, as I've stated over and over again, this isn't necessarily ever going to be implemented, just discussing the possibilities.

i think its a stupid idea...i hate the whole steam proccess n crap. making people pay just to stop cheaters? i see it more of a last resort. blue will hopefully have MUCH bette rcheat protectoin. althou i wud be willing to pay $1 to play, it wud put off too many players and wud be a hassle

steam was hackable.

in any case...i was acually talking about the many client-side anti-cheat protections...

all people need is a more suitable banning method then IPs.

Here's an idea:

All accounts are free, BUT, if an account has been suspended due to proven cheating, one must pay FIVE, yes FIVE dollars to play again.. So no one has to worry about paying becaues its free to sign up and play, but if you wan't to save yourself money, you won't cheat in the first place.. and if you are an honest player, you don't even have to think about paying to get your account back.

To prove someone is cheating, the mta client can perform a harddrive scan for all the files associate with trainers, it can do a ram scan for resident memory modifiers, accessing within gta's ram (okay, that ones tricky I know) and if they receive enough cheat-points.

Each time someone is in a server, someone can type "cheat playername" and it will tally their cheat report (if they are cheating, and blue should be stable enough that cheating won't be mistaken for glitches) BUT to prevent abuse of this cheat report system, anyone who has purposly lied, will be penalized by a $20 account re-enabling. (of course the $20 isnt demanded, the account holder simply doesn't get to play!)

Finally, to prevent multiple accounts, the following must be put into order:

1) IP Checking

2) Dupe email checking

3) a EULA before you sign up, that states if one makes multiple accounts, they are breaking the agreement, and can be fined accordingly ($10 per extra account) tho, this is the most unlikely, because I doubt MTA wants that kind of trouble, but hey, it would work

4) Carefull monitoring

With these simple additions, people will be more than glad to NOT cheat. Think about it.

lol, it's easy....... make the first account free and every next payed about 10 bucks so cheaters gotta pay the hell outtta them to come back after a ban :twisted: the only thing bad would be if sth was wrongly banned. So there should be an ip check also...... an there could be sth like a premium account for ol' registered users (from this forum). Soz for doubling GTAtri's post but i just thought that 5$ is lil to less.......peace 8)

Let alone all the ppl wrongfully banned the real reason this idea is bad is because ppl will feel they have paid to play MTA and become even bigger aholes than they are now.

No need to argue about it because it will never happen but this idea implemented would mean the end of MTA

There are way more practical ways of filtering out cheaters, sure it's nice to think of ways to make cheaters pay a price for being so lame, but the legal and practical issues it would raise would be horrible.

Thats why your first accound is free, and renewing a suspended account cost $$.. so noone would dare cheat. Btw, I understand the wrongfully banned part, but I described was around that, and I'm sure there are more.

ip can be easily changed....and i have like 6 email accounts

All computers have a unique serial OR mac addres (its a physical hardware address) that would be kind of hard to change, the mta client can keep track of these in a database.. (or even encrypted in a hidden file on the users comptuer) even if its a different ip, different account name, and different email, they can't change their computers ID! (unless they keep buying new network cards)

I visited some old Unreal servers, and they needed a File to Ident yourself.

What if the Client creates a Identification code for every Server you visited?

Example, Visit Server KFC (nothing against clans) and the Server tells the Client where in the Registry a new Key shall be created, creates a personnal ID, and every time you connect to the Server, it demands the Client to look at that registry adress for the ID.

It wouldn't even change by reinstalling the Client, because the Reg is not touched (in this place).

When the Admin knows how to use that feature, there will be a HIDDEN ID FOR EVERY SERVER. Per server another hiding place.

You would have to look through the whole registry to find and change the key.

And, be honest, after installing some softwares, your Registry already is a big dustbin where nobody can look through.

This some more codes would take no effect.

The server would just have to make an new id every new Player visits it.

well, for one....no.

most persistant cheaters would find the reg keys, and tell everyone where they are..

second...registry is NOT hard to look through...

third, that would cause unneeded stress on the server.

The servers could easyly change the Directory.

I don't see the Problem when you look for an id, if theres a Steam ID or something like it in planning, you will always have to control it.

After what the MTA-Team was able to made, it should be no problem for them any more to make the Server create a random ID with 10 Characters - which allows many combinations, so that no cheater would be able to change it that easyly (and be able to steal nicks) and save the IDs created.

I think my idea is fine, because:

Anything you do, there will always be a cheater who breaks through the ID.

The only way to prevent it is to invent a technology which can change the place of the ID every week - prob is just to delete the old ID - and at least, gives the n00bcheaters, which are overflowing the Servers, a headache, because they can't handle it.

Most of them just download some premade proggies and feel like god bcz they can use a mod ingame.

Most of them even don't make the mods themselfes.

Shortend up, the Idea is, to make cheating more complex, so that "normal" cheaters would have to work hard to get through cheating.

It also makes it possible to prevent nickstealers from stealing nicks.

yes when they make that mod to release to the public it try to automaticly bypass all that shit so noobs can use it. A game hacker knows that noobs won't beable to so they just code what ever to do so.

I know them very well.

Extremely well.

I have been playing with and against cheaters since 0.3.1r2, most of them can be glad if a selfmade mtad.scm won't crash on the first try.

They may be able to mod something little, but most are lazy like hell.

Even the handling.cfg has to be a modded one from a "specialist".

Cracking a Client is something just two or three are in fact able to do - of over 40 ppl.

This topic goes to them, right, but those who are able to crack the client will see the stuff soon enough, and the rest would not be able to change it, or, as far as i know them, they will be much to lazy to look through the Registry just to find the Key of this one Server, as long as there will be other Servers to go to.

Theres always a Server with no Admin. And on those Servers, even an obvious cheat is no problem.

Of course, the Folders in the Reg where the ID is saved will be found soon, but it will take them at least one or two days to spread this information.

As i said, it will be necessary to change the Folder every week.

Those who have some brains between their ears reduce the cheating to some "advantages", i.e. more Ammo, or invincible tires which most people they play against can't see at all.

Cheaters are not the illuminatis.

I have ever thought that my name stands left of my post, but: I'm Phat Looser, and i will always be.

I got the Numbers etc, because when i go on an almost emty server, and the two or four ppl on the server are all cheating around, i.e. using jetpack, showing each other mapmods etc, i talk to them.

As long as they don't use it to make ppl angry or kill them, and as long as nobody cares about, i don't bother if they cheat or not.

I also take some looks into their Forum, and i also look myself through the mods they made, because i am interested what and how they modded.

Blue will not bring more cheaters.

Why should the number of cheaters change?

It is always the same ppl cheating.
