Name register system to defeat dynamic IPs (Ban immunity)

Well I'm glad you found this Aeron

Opium is right about multiple emails registered with names, I had just thought about that today.

I can't think of a way to prevent that, anybody? Some kinda way to not give it to a brand new email account? I dunno. Still though, we would be better off than right now. It would be MUCH more of a hassle for cheaters (though they probably have no lives and nothing better to do all day so it will still be a problem). If some of the more unique things Opium was talking about could be used to detect, it would make it even more of a hassle.

So maybe it doesn't have to be foolproof, just too much of a hassle for most cheaters to bother figuring out/do.

WINXP key is no go however, too much pirated WINXP, so same CDKEY for perhaps 50% of the population...

What about MAC addresses and stuff though? MTA team has talked about it, but can you make a script check and ban with it Aeron? Maybe banning MAC address with a combo of some of the computer's hardware? Can that be checked? It would not be foolproof perhaps but combined with the login system it would take awhile just to get back ingame lol

Ban their ISP, IP prefix, email address, username, video card ID, CD key, and MAC address. I've never heard anything more desperate.

Before you dwell so deeply into some remarkable banning system that will make someone have to change their whole f*cking identiy to be able to come back, play the game and see just how many cheaters pop up. The amount of cheaters in Blue compared to today's will be cut in half. The overall amount of players will eventually be multiplied by atleast 5. From what I've heard, wich is just as much as most of you, these add-ons will give people enough fun as is.

So yes, your making far too over-exagerated predictions.

MAC addresses are fairly easy to fake.

eAi

But do you think it would help enough to add it in with a simple script? If cheaters did not know that is was MAC address banning also(server runner would have to keep a secret), then it would be much harder for noob cheaters to figure out thats what is keeping them out, right?

wow, acually, ransom, in one day, i faked my MAC, and GUID...

seems it will never be secure LOL!

Was it relatively easy? The other thing I'm getting at is, the team would have to explain the banning system most likely if something official came out, but if some script was made that secretly banned the MAC address or something, would cheaters be able to see that or would they just have to figure it out?

There isn't a solid way to do it I guess besides what the pros do for counterstrike and battlefield1942 and such, which is check every now and then to make sure everythings not abnormal (I say this because the pros would use the method if there was one). But as eAi said, they are planning for the day when MTA team is gone, maybe the site is suddenly gone forever and they disappear, so if they aren't looking into a long, long term commitment, then thats not really an option.

The famous XP crack is used by so many people,,, your neighbor, your pastor, the guy at the supermarket, your doctor, heck, probably even your govenor.

A lot of guilty feelings must be running through a lot of people here right now I'd imagine.

And there are serial key generators for GTA, so a hacker can easily change his serial for the game (with or without a keygen).

I am on a DSL connection, and every time I reboot my PC, I get a new IP number, meaning if my IP is banned, all I have to do is restart :D If my user name is banned, I just have to create a new user name, and even if there was a register via email system, I could get a new hotmail account for gamebro 2 ect

So no, there is no easy technical solution to this dire problem.

So why do people cheat? Some are very fat men in there early 30s who have nothing better to do, but most players do it because they want to make the game more fun.

FESS UP!!-- Who here has not dreamed about playing MTA with a speed hack??? Stop lieing to yourself, cause you know it would be fun to do some sick stunts!

No doubt that when blue comes out, and has all sorts of (cheating) servers, the hacking will probably be drastically reduced in the DM games. People who want to drive 1000 mph could do so legally in a speed server, so they won't need to disrupt death match players anymore.

You will still have your freaks that love ticking off other players, but it will be far less then what it is now.

And one last point--- The banned for a week thing is not really fair, considering how many people get unfairly banned. MTA is soo laggy and delayed about certain things, that it is easy to mistake a player as hacking, when it was really just lag.

Master73, I have no idea what you are getting at, but before you go on, just ask yourself: does it stop (at least temporarily) a person with 2 ips from getting back in?

Jakkass, great, but what are you gonna record? Read everything we talked about first.

finally, gamebro,

Everyone thinks blue will cut down cheaters, I agree. However, the problem is still going to be there. What about those people who simply don't want to die? I guarentee there's not gonna be any deathmatch servers (and even if there are) they are gonna go to where everyones invincible.

Also, another problem is ANGRY people. What about the guy that gets pissed off and then shows off by warping all the cars to one spot or crashing the client and/or server?

Then of course, theres the showoff brand of the above, just go in a server and show off all their fancy new tricks... blowing up all the cars, warping all of them to one spot, warping all the players to one spot... its amazing what bs they come up with.

So I still think a ban system will be more than needed. Not being able to keep a client/server hacker out just kills servers. One guy just kept crashing everyones MTA client today in partyserver and then logged in with a different name, as everyone else was joining, it was pretty impossible to ban him, especially when he most likely has dynamic ip.

Well im sure we could generate a hash out of gathered hardware, networking and personal information.

Who would be willing to host the masterservers though. Cause we would probably need more than 1.

Well IJs, if you guys actually get something worked out, since you guys are planning for the days you are gone, could you just design it so that each server has its own login system with 24 hour wait or whatever they set it at (many do to keep stats already ex: party server) and its own ban list for whatever you decide will be logged for banning?

Thats why I was looking towards MTA:MA as a simple way of handling this without inventing something major in the client/server and having a massive data logging server, but I don't know much about MTA:MA and I don't even know if it can retrieve all that info for a ban.

Cheat detection? Well thats another issue. This is just about banning people and keeping them banned. If you mean ban lengths, it would be whatever a certain server chooses my modifying it. It could be a day, week, month, year, whatever. Rest assured though, partyserver hardly perm. bans anybody as has official, so I think it won't go over a week tops.

MTAMA can check on a server if the person identical code-hash is allowed to join i could program that easy into mtama. but i'm not a php freak to code the I-net stuff

My I-net host doesn't allow php scripts. so i can't host the thingy thing

mtama can NOT get personal PC info tru the MTA connection

Okay, well then its def. a development project im looking to request.

Still, though, it could be every server keeping it's own records, theres no need for a master server.

Any extra ban checks is better than the silly IP ban right now.

While the extra layer of anti-cheating is nice, I think the least attractive / Effective method is this Blurb of verifying Peoples XP Keys. Here is why (Some Already Mentioned):

A. Not many people are Cool with thier Os Key being Scanned and Sent to someone else's Server.

B. Said server, may gather a Large list of XP or other OS Keys (and that's silly, also prolly Warez land)

C. Many Warez copies of XP Float around, thus aqs mentioned, Tommy Mods getting banned, also takes out all of your friends in Georgia :P

Like Ae said, if there is going to be an Email Authen setup for Playing MTA, I could easiely see it blowing new Players off, Email servers being overused and exploited (Hi Signup Bot), and prolly a few other layers of discomfort.

Keep in mind while locking down modders is nice, you need to lookout for the End user connecting to your Server too, as they don't want to jump thru loops to get a Few Frags in.

The MAC Addy ban sounds best so far. As mentioned, yes, people can spoof thier MAC, but how many modders will Know how to do so / go thru the hassle of doing so, just to be a modding whore? For that rare case, I'd just ban the subnet for a night or 2.

Good Luck on the Anti-Cheat Magic, just keep the Players in mind, and try to respect thier registry as much as possible.

Does that sound familular to anyone?

I love windows xp!

I am willing to bet, microsoft is aware of the hack and did this themselves to ensure no other operating system would EVER rise up against them! I'd say it has worked, as about half of the computers with WinXP have it illegally.

Why would you pay for some other OS, when you can have XP for free? And everyone LOVES to get something for free they are not supposed to get for free (ESPECIALLY when that something costs $150+ in stores) !!!!!!

Microsoft is smart.

how about

people need their IPs to register with the server that they are joining.

and the admin can accept the registration if they want and stuff. :o

if the server doesn't recognized your ip it won't allow you to enter.

but what if people's ips changed?

then to bad for them, lolz

Then they just ask again and the admin has no idea... or ask for alot at the same time with changed ip. Besides what server runner would use that system? Way too much work.

edit: Unless someone thinks of a form that requires somewhat unique information and not a snap to fill out to get on a server (html page, registered name is logged by a server/needed to get on the server), that idea is dead.
