Problems starting the map editor

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I searched a lot, but only found this same problem unanswered, or with an answer that doesn't work for me.

The problem is that I can start the map editor, it starts downloading resources, but always stops loading somewhere.

I'm using Windows XP 64bit. Here are the steps I've followed to install:

  • I completely uninstalled everything MTA related, including the map "MTA" in the San Andreas game folder
  • I started with r1365, but I've tried several others. For the latest attempt I've used r1421
  • With the installation options I've chosen "server+client"
  • The installation map is "D:\Program Files (x86)\MTA San Andreas"
  • I've downloaded and installed the data files, r1290. No configuration there, the correct MTA folder was already selected
  • I've downloaded the resource files and unpacked them in "D:\Program Files (x86)\MTA San Andreas\server\mods\deathmatch\resources\"
  • At this point I'm not sure if I have to install the net files. I try to run the game.
  • I click on "Map editor" and find out that the resources stop downloading at some point
  • I download the net files and unzip them to a temporary map
  • I search the MTA folder for net.dll, and find two: one in \MTA and one in \server.
  • The unzipped net files have a directory structure that doesn't completely match, but I presume the net file in "MTA San Andreas\MTA" replaces the one in \MTA, and the net file in "server" replaces the one in \server.
  • Both files are replaced. I start MTA again
  • I click on "Map editor". The black background is gone, but now it stops downloading around 5,5kb

I've tried disabling the windows firewall and AVG (antivirus), even uninstalling the last one, but that doesn't help a bit. Different versions of the nightly give the same results.

I've already posted this in another thread under a different nickname, sorry for posting it twice. This one is a bit more thorough. I've been wasting about a week trying to get this work, any help would be greatly appreciated!

wtfbbq. One second after I post this I find the answer:

I created a shortcut to Multi Theft Auto.exe, set compatibility mode to "Windows XP". Now it boots up nicely!

I cannot imagine I spend a week trying to figure this out. I hope this helps for others too :)
