It isn't supported, and since MTA isn't tested or even coded for Vista I highly doubt it will work.

You could try getting VMWare and setting up a virtual Windows XP machine on your desktop for playing MTA on, I don't know how good it would be though and you'd need a pretty powerful PC to run Vista, XP and MTASA simultaneously.

Remember that the Vista RC versions aren't designed for gaming, they're designed for beta testing. I would recommend going back to XP if you want to play games on your computer.

If your gonna post a reply, you might as well post something useful

I'm having this problem too, seems to not do anything, but GTA works, i hope there will be a useful reply to this

to deem myself userful i thought i might put the output of core.txt as follows

GTA3, GTA:VC and GTA:SA works on vista, and works fine for me, no crashes yet (RC1 build 5600) although it wouldnt let me run it Beta 2 because of the drivers wernt finished, i seem to be happy with playing GTA:SA in vista

and the stock drivers seem to be more decent in this release, although they could always be better, but thats microsoft for you...

it is a proper release, close enough to it anyway, RC1, best to get in things early, for testing and development, you mean there waiting for RTM

i would like to see something, but lots of devs seem to get paranoid about there reputation if they release something thats not quite in working condition, i think this idea depreciates the fact that its free and forces people to take this free software for granted, expecting something good when you shouldnt expect anything

Windows Vista has now been "released to manafacturer" (RTM phase) and I am running it already (I'm a BETA-tester and I got a free full-version copy).

I think it's important to get a release out ASAP for Vista, even if it just means making some changes to the CURRENT client.

I found it odd that the Grand Theft Auto games work fine... but Multi Theft Auto does not. :(

what idiot would buy vista on the release day anyways?

vista is not out yet, and no one needs support for it yet.

and since it is not out, the mta team can not test on it.

I think it's more preferrable to just focus on deathmatch for now on, and take a loot at vista later, when it starts to be taken serious.

and how do you manage to BETA-test the product if it allready has reached the RTM phase.

So if you say you're BETA testing it, isn't it just stupid to only run vista on your pc? Just make a dualboot and stop complaining about problems that are irrelevant at this moment.

The MTA team can't get it working on Vista because no-one on the team has access to the beta. Our priority is whatever the majority of our userbase uses, and at the moment that is Windows XP. The team isn't going to spend time trying to get MTA to work on an unreleased operating system, because it is likely that major changes could still be made (ship dates can change).

Please don't respond so aggressively to a topic which clearly you know nothing about.

As of today, Windows Vista (the 'business' package) has been released for general sale. Granted, the consumer release of Vista isn't going to be until January, however right now there are still thousands of people who have installed the 'final' version due to either academic licencing, free-copies (given to BETA-testers like me) and MSDN subscribers. Ask yourself this: who is actually more likely to be running the MTA modification? Is it people who will go out and buy a Dell computer in January (no, but some will), or will it be people who are knowledgable about technology and have already installed the new (yes, the CURRENT) version of Windows - Vista (lots!). Clearly it is the latter option.

Windows Vista has been available for free BETA-testing for months (which I have done, and surely the developers of MTA could have done too), and now Vista is 'RTM', which means it is actually RIGHT NOW the most up to date and 'current' version of Windows. Worrying about Vista LATER is like saying "we are going to continue developing horse-shoes" when cars had been invented! In fact, copies of Vista RTM can be downloading and installed without a licence key (for a 30 day period), so there really is no excuse for the developers of a popular modification not to be able to at least investigate the issue.

The developers should look into solving the 'Vista problem' now. Why? Well firstly, so that everyone who is about to enjoy a Christmas holiday will be able to play MTA without cursing the developers, and secondly so that when Vista is released in January, there wont be a terrible flood of people saying "why doesn't MTA work in Vista? This sucks!".

And finally, Leviathan, do not refer to me as 'stupid' just because I'm running the latest version of Windows. Don't tell me that you are dual-booting Windows XP and Windows ME? I'm pretty sure you aren't, so therefore it's superfluous to instruct me to dual-boot the two most recent copies of Windows. If you're not going to upgrade to Vista due to cost, or hardware compatibility, don't take it out on me. Get with the times and understand that if you're not running the cutting-edge, then you've fallen behind. Simply calling the issue 'irrelevant' is a cop-out, and is a clearly myopic point to be making.

Therefore I am urging the developers to at least discuss the situation with someone who is currently running Vista and hopefully at least find the underlying issue with the incompatibility.

It's not that we're trying to dodge the issue, it's just that time is tight. A lot of the developers have been busy with real life lately, and the mod hasn't really progressed as well as we'd have liked (several features were pushed to the next release). I think it's better to release a version earlier that the majority of people can play, rather than delay the whole mod to benefit a small proportion. You are assuming that Vista support will be easy, but it could require some major changes. I don't know what MS has done under the hood, but MTA modifies the memory of GTA, and they may have put limits on this to prevent viruses injecting code into running programs (the source of many problems with XP).

Yes, I appreciate the time-constraints.

I'm not, however, assuming that Vista support is easy. I very much admire the MTA developers for creating such a brilliant program - something that's definitely beyond my abilities! But I do believe that taking a look now is better than leaving it until later. If you take a look now and a fix is found, brilliant... but if no fix can be found, then at least you know the seriousness of the problem and so you can therefore plan the rest of the modification's development around this. Leaving it until later is bad because you'll not only delay Vista-users in being able to play the modification, but you'll also have a flood of people in January asking why their favourite computer game doesn't work on their spanking-new computers!

As I said before, I would be more than happy to work with / help the developers in finding the source of the problem and finding a fix for it ([email protected] if you're interested).

Thank you for replying though - that much is most appreciated.

Is anybody going to study problems described here or continue talking on theme "Is Vista good for developers?" ???!!! I've got the same problem as yonaz! The exception unknown software exception (0xc0000005) occured in the application at location 0x04cf8c0f

I see the viewpoint of Superrobster, and most of what he says makes sense.

But please do not consider shifting your development towards Vista at this time.

The majority of the community have been waiting for MTA:SA DM for a very long time, further delays for a OS which will be released in a few months will be very depressing.

I for one will be upgrading to Vista in the latter stages of next year, or when the majority switch over.

You can be certain the majority of this community will not be rushing out to get Vista in January, cost is an issue for a start, i don't want to be offensive but half the community are still at school, how can they afford Vista in under 8 weeks time.....

Vista is the future for sure, but probably 90% of the MTA community will not have Vista for some time to come.

Stick to your current plans, i beg of you ;)

expect a dm release on XP before vista is all that can be said really, a lot of time has been spent developing it for xp so it would be a waste to drop it all and spend a lot of time making it work for vista when not everyone will upgrade to vista the day it comes out
