  1. hmmm, unable to bind socket huh? What port are you trying to run the admin server on? If anything else is being used by that port, that could possibly give you that error message. Try changing it to use a port that you know for sure isn't being used.
  2. I think I'm suffering from the same problem you were... I'm currently using a Linksys Wireless-G Router (WRT54G), and sometimes (usually at high loads, but not always) EVERYONE will get disconnected from my server at once; a mass timeout for everyone. When this happens, my Internet IP address changes as well. The weird thing is that this doesn't happen at any other time other than running the MTA server. If I'm uploading/downloading from ftp/web/irc/etc no problems, my other game servers never crap out (Ghost Recon and BF 1942) when under stress... it just seems to happen when mta is running. Has anyone found a solution for this, other than buying a better router? Not using the router is also not really an option...
  3. Why are you guys even replying to this guy anymore?? He clearly doesn't grasp some basic concepts, or he can't read. Your conversations with him have been going around in a circle, MULTIPLE TIMES! Either case he's not worth replying to! Luke, it's VERY CLEAR that the programmers of MTA aren't interested in trying to get an XBOX version of their client working. So either program it yourself instead of trying to tell them what needs to be done, or STFU.
  4. no.. you don't need to be connected to the internet. As long as you are on the same local network (can ping another computer's IP address) you can play MTA against a person using that computer.
  5. And what an Olympics it was!! Although most of the competitors started dropping out after the 3rd event or so, a few hard core olympiads battled against all odds and were able to complete a GRUELING 5 events! It's hard to get a bunch of guys organized in the Vice City world, but I must commend the people who participated in their co-operation and level of maturity. We were able to whip through the 5 events in under 2 hours thanks to this. The events began with the NASCAR challenge. Winning the first heat was SM Gamefreak and 420 Blunt. Winning the second heat was SM Curly and 420 Transam. For the final heat SM Gamefreak took home the gold cup, followed by 420 Blunt with silver, and 420 Trans-Am with bronze. The next event was the roof-top jump challenge. This was met with a lot of frustration and humiliation by a few of the contenders! This is where the men were seperated from the boys! Most were able to make it to the first or second rooftop, but only SM Curly, SM Gamefreak, and myself pulled ahead of the pack to claim victory slots. I can't remember the exact order of win unfortunately... Following the frustrating (for some) roof-top jumping (EVERYONE can do it with bikes... it was SUPPOSED to be hard with cars only) we moved onto the "last man standing" event. Only 7 or 8 contenders remained at this point, but it was enough to make the showdown quite the battle. Dgtadude started things off by taking a few screen shots of us on the moon, then we got right down to why we were there... to FIGHT!! Everyone did their best "hide and seek" impression and retreated to the safety of corners and boxes; then the whisle blew and the action began! Once again, winners were SM Gamefreak, SM Curly, and 420 TransAM. After getting some agression out of us, we proceeded to the great race... eyes were getting itchy so we decided to shorten it down to 1 race instead of two. Some chose bikes, others chose stock cars. Myself and SM GameFreak tied for first, SM Curly following a close 3rd (even if he _was_ confused about the finish line Top 3 places all raced on bikes. Finally, the destruction derby! This turned into quite the fun event; involving an 18 wheeler (well, the rig part of it anyhow), the firetruck, the sanddigger, and a couple derby cars. Once again SM GameFreak took home a gold, (derby car amazingly enough!!), I took home silver (firetruck) and Curly took home bronze (sand-digger). Final Standings are as follows: Gold : SM GameFreak Silver : |4:20| crUshed Bronze : SM Curly and |4:20| Trans-Am tied Once again I'd like to thank all who were on the server for the fun. And I propose the next olympics be held by the StuntMasters who had both a great turnout and a great showing in the final standings
  6. Event Listing For each event, the top 3 players will receive points. 5 points for 1st place, 3 points for 2nd place, and 1 point for 3rd. In all events, your character choice is up to you. Included Events (in no particular order) --------------------------------------------- 1) Show-down at the OK corral (ok, not the OK corral, but the movie studio... close enough!) This will involve all contestants entering the movie studio arena. The event will begin by allowing everyone to spread out, and choose their starting place. Once everyone is in place, I will give the "GO!" signal, at which point it's basically last man standing wins. As soon as you die, you can respawn but you CANNOT enter the movie studio again. Event will continue until only 1 man remains. 2) Classic Street Race You've all raced it before...(and if you haven't study the race map here: http://pub78.ezboard.com/fclanfourtwent ... =203.topic ) now the time to put your practice hours to the test has come! A classic street race from the stadium, to vercetti island, around the semi-circle, and back! 2 seperate races will take place, with full points handed out for each race. First race cars only, the second race any vehicle of your choice, including bikes. 3) Roof-jumping ExtravaganZa!! In this event, players must choose a CAR (no bikes allowed!!) to compete in the ultimate roof-ramp challenge. The event will start with players lined up (in vehicles of their choice) at the bottom of the elevator building. With no time limit in place, the players can roof-ramp at their leisure; the goal to get as far as possible. Although there is no time limit, you only get ONE CAR. If it blows up, or if you fall off a roof, you are out of the event and marked as getting to the last roof you successfully landed on. The 3 players who make it to the furthest roof will be awarded points. Since damage to your car plays a key role in this event, only one car at a time will be allowed on the roofs to make sure there is no "destruction derby" taking place between competitors. 4) Destruction Derby The name says it all. Any vehicle you can fit into the derby ring is acceptable. Since many vehicles will be "fought" for, everyone must start at the airport, IN THE TERMINAL, and at the signal must race for the vehicle of their choice. Once you enter a vehicle it is yours and CANNOT be jacked by anyone. Bring your vehicle to the stadium, and provided you can get it into the derby ring (LEGITIMATELY) it's fair game. This event will be handled like a real derby, with cars lined up facing away from each other. Last vehicle remaining wins first place. 5) Nascar 10 lap challenge No real description is necessary here... a 10 lap nascar challenge, with different heats, 4 cars per race. A final heat will determine the 1st 2nd and 3rd place winners. Anything goes in this race; will the smash and bash racers pull off a victory, or will the more conservative racers win the cup!
  7. I have the ATI All in Wonder 9700 PRO, using drivers I downloaded in September... not sure which version (i'm not at my computer right now). I have no problems whatsoever riding as passenger... maybe try different versions of the drivers and see if that helps. I'll get you my exact version drivers if you want...
  8. Think you got mta skillz that cover the complete spectrum of the Vice City World? Compete in the first VC Olympics! 5 Events created to test a variety of skills... Show the other competitors who REALLY oWnZ the streets of VC. For more info, visit http://clan420.ath.cx Action starts Friday Night at 9pm EST, on server clan420.ath.cx port 2003
  9. after reading his posts a few times, I'm not entirely convinced he's even running the server software. First off, are you running the server??? Run the server, then as suggested obtain the IP address of the computer running the server. Then use the client to connect directly to that IP. On the machine that the server is running on, you can simply connect to localhost instead of using an IP address. (yes, just type localhost)
  10. UNINSTALL MTA UNINSTALL VICE CITY COMPLETELY DELETE VICE CITY DIRECTORY (if still exists) REINSTALL MTA and VC If you do that, you'll be fine. If you don't, you'll get yelled at by users of this forum Oh, and this has been posted many times before... so before anyone else tells ya this, SEARCH BEFORE ASKING
  11. Great site!! We just signed our clan up, can't wait to do some battles!! http://clan420.ath.cx
  12. Well, lets say YOU are on an official MTA server. Someone is acting like a fool with a trainer and he gets banned with the IP range banning. You realize that you are in the same range as him. Now you're banned from ALL THREE SERVERS. Doesn't seem fair, does it? No, doesn't seem fair you're right; but I've had to deal with it. I use IRC very frequently, and sometimes I'll try to connect to a server and find that I have been banned due to abusive clients connecting from my ISP. I did nothing wrong, but I can't access their server because of others. I don't sit and cry about it, I connect to another server. Until some better way of banning comes along (such as the suggested MAC address banning method) I want the ability to ban by ranges. Who says the admins have to use them; just give us the option!!
  13. you're right, it may not be fair to those 20 people I cut off; but for the 15 people who are still on my server playing cheat free it's great.
  14. However using only 5-7kbits is not realistic. At most we are talkinga bout 900 bytes. That aint gonna happen. Exactly... 5-7kbits is less than 1 k/sec transfer rate. Even crappy cable modem connections can upload at 20 k/sec, so according to that, you should be able to host a 20 player game. Not bloody likely!!! From my experience, I've found that a 640kbit upstream connection can support 12 people without negative ping times appearing. Once you go above 12 people, the game still plays fine (ie not much warping, you can still kill people, etc) but the ping readings (when you hit f11) are ALL f00ked up; you get negative numbers, numbers in the 16000 ranges (which would be like 16 seconds - definitely not accurate) etc. I have also seen EVERYONE on the server timeout all at once; INCLUDING a client connecting directly to localhost. That's something that always confuses me; why does a client running on the server time out?? There should be NO reason that happens... Above 16 people (on a 640 kbit upstream connection) forget it. There's NO WAY 16 people can play without major problems. That being the case, 640/16 = 40kbits/sec per user; or roughly 5 KILOBYTES per second upstream and downstream is needed per user.
  15. So does that mean that you can't ban using wildcards currently? I have a few entries in my ban file containing *'s (ie 65.50.*) and if they are not working; or worse yet, causing problems, I'll remove them ASAP. And before I hear you guys say it's dumb to ban ranges because you restrict "fair" players as well; I don't want to hear it. I'd rather have a few "fair" players unable to access my server than have 1 cheater ruin it for EVERYONE.
  16. are you talking about the short cut in the semi-circle? If so, yes, that's the only area where you could CHEAT and "slice off" a little bit of time... We always have a "referee" or two watching the race at all times though, so any cheaters are disqualified! One ref watches while following in chopper, the other watches the map in ESC mode.
  17. We've been having a lot of fun "street racing" in MTA lately, and was wondering if anyone's up for a challenge... We have a few different game rules that we play with, but basically it's a race from the stadium to vercetti island (around the semi-circle) and back to the stadium. We've tried with teams, and without, and it's always a tonne of fun. So if you think you're "the master" at racing, whether it be in cars, bikes, etc, stop on by our server and challenge us... Here's a link to the "race route" map and rules if anyone's interested... we've got some skilled players competing on a nightly basis, but we want fresh blood http://pub78.ezboard.com/fclanfourtwentyforumsfrm15.showMessage?topicID=203.topic
  18. Can you ban an IP range, or does it have to be a specific IP? I have no problem banning a ranges of IPs, I just want to know if it's possible. ie, can you enter this for example: 199.212.143.*
  19. or at least a little bit of mspaintin' Nine hundred and Thirty Three Feet!! Now I'M the King!
  20. Yes, now we can tell you what's wrong... you're asking the wrong people Go to http://www.jbandit.net/maps.php, look for a link to support/help/forums, and ask the coder of that mod... You said yourself, the folder with mta works fine, so why you asking here??
  21. Does anyone else crash to desktop (no error message) when they try to enter the Hot Ring (the stockcar racetrack inside the stadium) when the server is on stunt mode? I have only tried entering as one person; the guy who spawns at the stadium, but wether I enter in a car or on foot, it always crashes. I threw the server back to normal (deathmatch) mode and it still works fine; I can enter and get the stock cars etc, but when in stunt mode it always crashes. This just me, or does it happen to anyone else?
  22. Win XP Professional SP1 with all critical security patches applied AMD Athlon Processor Asus motherboard with nforce2 chipset (just in case the above matters)
  23. I upgraded to version 0.22 today, so I'm not sure if this problem is still occurring or not; and I'm not even certain it's related at all to the MTA Server, but I thought I'd ask here just in case... I've noticed that ever since running the MTA server 24/7, my system clock runs much faster than it should. It speeds up by about 10 minutes per day; each morning I sync my clock with "Internet Time" so that it's relatively 'correct', and each morning it has to adjust it by 10 minutes backwards. Is this a known issue with the server?
  24. woohoo!!!! SUCCESS!!! I'm not sure WHY it didn't work while I was in DMZ mode (perhaps I just didn't leave it on dmz long enough; you said it takes time to connect to ASE and I didn't want to leave my computer wide open for very long) but I decided to forward ports 2001 to 2126 inclusive (as opposed to forwarding ONLY ports 2001 and 2126) and voila, it appeared on the eye. So I think there must be some other port needed between 2001 and 2126 in order for it to work properly, at least with this particular linksys (or maybe just with my particular machine, who knows!!) At any rate, i'm happier than a pig in sh*t, thanks to all those who offered help, and especially to the developers and MTA team who took time out of their busy schedules to assist. Great work with MTA, and I'll buy it the MINUTE an official release is ready!
  25. dUde, once you get used to the keyboard/mouse combo, you'll RARELY want to go back to using controllers... especially for first/third person shooters! I remember playing GTA3 on the PS2 before it came to the PC, and I was so frustrated by the control system. After many hours of playing, i finally got used to it, but 10 minutes after playing the PC version I was already better at controlling gameplay. Aiming with the mouse is just so much easier than fumbling with thumbsticks. But yes, as everyone above me has mentioned, there are NUMEROUS solutions out there for those who simply can't give up their controller... but you won't need them!!
