I would assume it would - being that MTA server handles traffic, and CLIENT handles memory (where 9x/NT differ). Why not *nix the box?
  2. Rather than doing it, you could have just TOLD them. But thats much too EASY, now, aint it?

MTA coders, how hard would it be to check to see if you're in a local IP range? Automagically do it...?
  4. Hello Blokker, I know where the EULA is and I read it, word for word. And, you seem to agree with me that the EULA does not prevent one from using modifications in MTA. I would like to say that my post was not meant to be unruly; rather, I was simply stating as you have that though you may be legally exempt, such actions should not be executed on any server other than those that explicitly allow it (I may not have stated this in this context, so if I did not, I apologize). I wholeheartedly agree that just because the opportunity is there, it shouldn't be taken (hey, i have the opportunity to drive over a bridge! Should I?), and that server admins who feel such activities should not take place on their server shouldn't have to think twice before kicking that player out of the game. Thank you for the reply, Blokker... hope I cleared some things up as well
  5. So what... why dont you say our computer is only as fast as our harddisk then? Or, if you want to get into semantics you could say floppies for those who have them...
  6. Tron 2.0 was fun...albiet short. I too found myself going every possible path just to see what was there, as well as rushing As for my thoughts? No clue right now. I dont have time for (too many) games...

    handling.cfg

After playing 1p so long some people like to screw around in that... dont always think its because of MTA... MTA should have its own config that replaces out VC's config... perhaps one that allows server-specific settings? Hmm...
  8. Pretty old? You dont follow nVidia, do you. That was the version directly BEFORE the 52.16's. Most people are still using that version as well, becasue of incorrect trilinear filtering on the 52.16's. Plus, the only cards that see any real performance increase are the FX line - if you're using, say, a Ti4200 you wont see an increase in performance with the 52.16's. *sigh* I hate it when people think they know what they're saying...
  9. There WAS a driver update though to fix the problems, if you notice in the readme for the 45.23's. Proprietary....
  10. NO WAREZ ON THE FORUMS !!! THAT IS A RULE !!! See what happens when people dont read the entire post
  11. Hey, I am not saying it should be advocated, and I really hate it when people mod the game especially to use it to abuse other characters. I am just saying, as it stands now, should a v0.2.2 server admin wish to allow mods, he or she can, and players can use them... again, so long as they mod Vice City, not MTA (which in a sense, "takes over" Vicy City to make it multiplayer-capable). So, if you are on a server, and an admin doesn't want you there for doing it, dont be surprised PLEASE, just dont do it to begin with!! Actually, I hope they extend some of the ideas of letting mods be on servers that are downloaded for users, so EVERYONE would be using the mod, that would be nice n' interesting...
  12. I just read the EULA as stated in MTAinstall.exe for MTA v0.2.2, which by the way I do not think is included in the ZIP version, so those who download and use that version may be legally exempt from the EULA. According to the EULA, there is no clause stating it is illegal/disallowed to modify maps for Vice City. MTA in its function modifies the way Vice City is played, but modifications take part on Vice City, not MTA. Therefore, legality-wise, it is 100% legal to modify with maps and trainers, but only if not modifying MTA's files. This EULA is nothing more than a copy and paste job, and should have been formed with the intent of securing MTA, rather than having some legal mumbo jumbo in an installer.
  13. Yeah, mtavc.com posted a news article a while back saying the server was in the portage tree The only problem I have is the description - it says a server for GTA3: Vice City or the like... ah well I haven't tried emerging it, isn't that library listed as a dep in the ebuild or is that why you were having this problem - it wasn't, and you needed it?
  14. Hey, not everyone can help it. Better to have that than a TNT2, for example. Remember, not everyone has non-OEM'ed hardware, some dont come with AGP... extra costs to buliding
  15. Download some American ISOs. I mean, c'mon, you bought the game, you shouldn't be held back by some specialized version for your country. I dont think, you having bought your version, anyone would object... rather I believe they would probably do exactly as I stated, given a similar situation and applicable bandwidth
  16. The nVidia driver update was to fix distance-draw bugs present in nVidia hardware. To say, however, I have had my problems fixed would be an inaccurate statement. Even with the 52.16's I still have draw distance problems with this card. XGI is looking more and more like my sort of solution...
  17. You need to make sure both "mta.scm" and "mtas.scm" are in your GTA:VC game directory\DATA directory.
  18. Bcrusher, I was not referring to cheats. That is not where my issue lies. The issue is verbally abusing and in-game abuse of characters, ganged up on by your gang. Also, I made a note about maturity - I understand you say age isn't a requirement, but shouldn't maturity be, at least to some degree? You have shown maturity by stepping up and taking responsibility to aide in fixing these issues - where is the rest of your group? I really do appreciate and respect you coming out with aide... but who can help some of these 21, 22 year olds who are in your group with a 7 year old complex?
  19. Do you mean loves your computer? Because I do agree with you, it loves your CPU for its lovely cycles. If you dont know how USB works, try to search for some information... I could not find any that tells you the technical information about USB, only consumer information. You might understand then why external soundcards don't work so well for games
  20. VCPD, thank you for a sincere reply. However, just on a personal note, why would you accept people who act like this into a clan that you would want respected, or at least not hated? Is that a no-no in this gang? I know not everything is VCPD, but VCPD does it as a GROUP. Whats the difference between one against five? Thanks again for opening yourself to resolution of this situation... it is much appreciated, probably by others more than myself.
  21. Never heard of that soundcard... But man, putting your 3000+ through the torture of a VIA chipset! Shame! Get a Soltek N64-400 or whatever the hell that model is less than $80, no need for two sticks of RAM, quite stable, and though the audio isn't the greatest, it hardly hits the CPU and beats out whats on your current board.
  22. What do you expect from a USB soundcard? Do you realize how many CPU cycles USB steals? Extigy, as with almost - repeat almost, there are some solutions that work somewhat - all external soundcards, do not handle games well. They are meant for things such as simple music playback and the like, not gaming or other operations that demand massive CPU usage. Trust me - my 1ghz techmachine at work with external USB2 HD takes about 50% cpu usage during heavy access to the thing. Thats not counting resources taken for network or any other peripherals... [mr.]Mr.Hat: That is "dual" CPUs - you might want to correct that, unless your CPUs are fighting with eachother. Also, might wanna correct other things (spelling, for example) in your profile.. DeLuXxX, what motherboard were you using? If you do not know, can you at least find out what chipset?
  23. You and your pictures As for the log: Why can't people spell and use proper homonyms anymore? VCPD Bcrusher: Its right there in the log, at least one sample. Are you that blind? I have too received shit from VCPD just as a normal player, I notice a lot of bragging, etc. and it really bothers me. How old is the general player in your little group there? 7, 8?
  24. Even my PC bogs up sometimes, playing 640x480 w/2xAA8xAF (get high refresh rates... ). Its my videocard holding me back and nothing more, but still, it can be quite taxing on a system. When I stop Prime95 (have it automatically stop when playing MTA:VC), its usually a bit more responsive... so it seems MTA:VC (and perhaps even GTA:VC itself) are prone to having issues when resources are utilized....
  25. Make sure the "mta.scm" and "mtas.scm" are in your GTAVC\Data folder. If not, download the ZIP of MTA:VC, and copy those two files there.
