  1. The thing about getting my own PC is getting an internet connection to it. My parents own our broadband connection so it could still get messed with at thier whim, which would blow. There's no bloody reason for me to get my own PC though; they hardly ever use the machine we have now and there is NO reason for me not to use it either. And this internet cafe is really expensive...and it is a twenty minute walk here and another twenty back.Best of all, it's windy and raining today and I'm so stressed I could explode! GRRR!!
  2. What do you mean ? Erm, exactly what it says? If you don't know, the word legible means able to be read. The "TkS" callsign only just fits on the image between the club and the road on the next island. It has to span outlines to a few things which muddles the text a bit, hence my statement. As for inactive/disbanded gangs, I am totally unable to check up on these or update this thread in any way because my dad has removed the modem to my home computer - I'm having to pay to use an internet cafe terminal at the moment. Nothing changed to make him take the modem, everything had been EXACTLY the same for days...what a total crank!
  3. I'm not sure if I will be running a GTA3 version of this register. If I get more requests for GTA3 locations, I'll get a shot of the GTA3 map and will add it to the start of this thread.Until then, I've added TkS to the Malibu. Was a bit of a squeeze but I think it's just about legible.
  4. Parents have prevented me from accessing the computer all through this, so I'll just comment on the aftermath. There are twelve topics set as announcements or pinned threads. Here are the ones I reckon should be removed:- 2 day rule for regulars - this is simply not required. People who flame will be resented by the quality gangs and members. People in quality gangs who flame new ones will simply get removed. Only shite gangs allow thier members to flame newcomers. Time Converter - people can just check using the windows clock what the hour offset between timezones is, then they just add that to thier current time and hey presto. You have to be seriously retarded not to realise that. Gang Ally Post - this is unecessary. If a gang wishes to express an alliance or an enmity with another gang, they can simply add it to their official gang member list. Additionally, this thread is full of spam. Poll: What About - this poll was to decide whether each gang should have its own area. This is a pointless suggestion because the current system of one area for all gangs allows them to interact freely and it allows information threads, such as the member list, to be in the same place as all gang discussions. MSG TO EVERYONE - hasn't been replied in since October 2003. It's both dead and irrelevant. rules - remove the rules thread?! The fact is that the staff are not involved sufficiently with the community to intervene when conflicts arise. If people wish to flame, they will simply be despised by the high quality members and won't be able to get into any high quality clans because of this. Suspended Gang - this, again, is not required. Gangs who cheat or use modifications in public or tournament games will be identified by the people they play against and will therefore be despised. Of course, those who use cheats or modifications in private games aren't harming anyone. QUICK NOTE TO GANGS - this was a memo to inform gangs that there was no minimum post count to start a gang any more. Any new gangs won't be aware this rule ever existed, so this thread is now redundant. I started SSR without fifty posts and that didn't cause any problems. In fact, we were very well received. The two most recent announcements ("FORUM CLEANUP" and "we apologise") should be left as they are still active. However, they should be removed once they become redundant imho.
  5. Fantastic news. Clan leaders will be able to retrieve the code for thier decorative first posts in order to re-create thier clan topic. Additionally, old match reports could be salvaged and other souvenirs. I would advise clans that they only create one thread if they wish to re-post old match reports, though. To those confused about post count loss, I would imagine that this board increments your post count each time you make a post and decrement the post count each time a post of yours is deleted. Therefore, everyone who ever posted in a thread which was deleted would lose however many posts they had made in that thread.
  6. Serious Street Racing Have Retired As of the eighteenth of March twenty zero four (18/04/2004) I, Ben "Cerbera" Millard, am withdrawing the MTA:VC clan "Serious Street Racers" from all competitive AND casual activity. The end really started back on the first of August twenty zero three (01/08/2004) when my parents prevented me from using the computer for five weeks. They then returned my access to it only to revoke it during January, give it back, then take it away again. They do this purely at thier own whim, I do nothing to provoke these punishments. Due to thier actions I am totally unable to run SSR and the street racing scene never really came together anyway. Also, I have so many commitments to GTA modifying that I never get time to actually play the game either. In the short time we had, we played a lifetime.™
  7. Right, I can still run this topic but updates will be fairly infrequent. I've gotten back into my parents' good books, so I think it's just a matter of time before I get a decent amount of computer access back.
  8. Apologies for the double-post but I something has happened which will have a radical effect on this thread: Forced Absence #3 - LOCKOUT As the computer I use is now locked away, I have no idea when I will be able to update this thread. As the easter holidays are approaching this could be quite important as more people are likely to be using the forums. Please give me at LEAST one week to respond to any requests for new locations. If I don't reply here for two weeks or more, then someone else can update the image. It uses verdana at size 12 or 14. The dots are done in MSPaint, using a single click with the large round brush. The lines are done at the middle width - 3 pixels - and to get them straight draw them whilst holding down the SHIFT key. Once you've done the update, make a half-sized version and upload them both somewhere. Inform an active member of staff with links to both versions (you could PM them the actual code) and they could add it to the first post, or you could simply post the image as a normal message and when I next get on I'll transfer the updates to the official image. Or we could just not stress over it!
  9. I'm still sort of under a forced absence but I've managed to find time to add the TEA location to the map. The idea of having your base at or very close to a spawn point is not good because during assualt matches, when defenders die they might respawn in the base and claim they hadn't died. There's also the fact that if you congregate thier in public play, it could easily degenerate into actually spawn-killing. So please choose locations that aren't near spawn points.
  10. It's pretty congested around that area because of all the great locations. I'm suprised that no-one claimed the scrapyard earlier. I've added you on there, it's a great location with all those mounds, walls, towers and the health pickup.
  11. It's generally a bad idea to chose places where you get a load screen, because in the heat of battle you can end up entering and the textures won't have loaded...urgh, I'm just gonna add this to the first post because I have to put on every frigging page. I've added {M} to the house, cheers for the screenshot. I was right about where you meant, just that there is the apartment block a little further down and the building which you stood on to take the shot as well. Hardly any cover from helicopters on that place, SSR considered it but decided against it because of the heli attack vulnerability. {NS} you can take those three buildings by all means. As people can exit helicopters whilst they move, people assualting your base just need to swoop in real fast and leap out to land on a roof, then can drop a molotov or two and you'll be screwed! You'll have to be careful with your tactics, because if you destroy all your helicopters you'll have no way to get off those buildings. (EDIT) The image has been update with the new Montana and Navy locations. I've also made the long overdue additions to the opening post about the gang member list and problems with chosing certain types of location.
  12. Sorry, but I don't know which house you mean. I think you are talking about the one with all the different levels, a pool and a big ramp just East from the Leaf Links golf course building, but I can't be sure. Could you take a screenshot from the game and post it here? Or am I thinking of the same building as you after all?
  13. As you must have read the warnings about the interior textures failing to load for crucial seconds when there is a lot going on, I take it you are aware of the risk you take by asking for that property. Also, it is extremely vulnerable to...everything, really! There isn't really anywhere you can get cover from because molotovs will be lethal against you in those confined, open spaces. Hmm, perhaps you might re-consider after all? I'll delay adding you until you confirm your location.Xenex, thanks for doing the caretaker thing.
  14. Oh, that's El Swanko Casa. Pretty building, good helicopter cover, very close quarters stuff. Vulnerable to smart molotov usage, though. I have now re-located the "WtF" and "KFC" gangs now. The map has been updated to reflect this. There were some other gangs requesting possible changes but I havn't seen confirmations from them, so they havn't been altered/added. As a public notice, there is no problem with modifications because MTA:VC is a modification itself. The only times any tenable argument could be made against using additional modifications are: During official matches. When playing on servers which don't explicity state that they allow additional modifications. This thread is NOT for flaming people who use additional modifications because as long as they only use them on servers which allow them, as SSR do, there is no unfair benefit. Additionally, even if you suspect someone of using additional modifications on a server which does not allow them, this thread is not the place to voice these concerns. This thread is for Gang Headquarters to be discussed, not for bickering about modifications, please.
  15. Which bank? There's loads of them. Why are you moving out of the Kaufman building anyway? That place is killer, and you've got the music from the arcade machines to keep you entertained whilst you kill attackers!
  16. OK, that's all cool then. Still waiting for the previously listed gangs to get back to me. If KFC want to re-locate themselves, then they can. Frequent re-locating will really piss me off and I'll probably just wipe you from the map, though. Oh, make sure you don't pick a location which has already been taken. That goes to all gangs, too. If you want to re-locate before the ladder thing kicks off, I'll do a mass update in a few days time.
  17. You never clarified how this thread would be involved. I hadn't tried to shoot down the idea at all, WTF are you on about?! I was asking how this thread would be involved. KFC, that "hypothetical example" idea would mean that this map would have to be updated so frequently that it would become unworkable, I fear. Also, the idea itself is flawed severely because if gangs which lose can just assign themselves a new location the city will simply get covered in dots, with no space for text to say who owns what! Instead, what would work is to have the headquarters here as permanent bases for which assualt type games would be played. Defenders and attackers, that style. It's a much more tactical game than deathmatch and so far more involving to play in. Additionally, it retains the ownership of territory without requiring impossibly frequent updates to this thread AND it avoids the possiblity of property saturation, where the map becomes unusable because of all the text on it. (EDIT) I've altered the formatting of the titles in the first post, in line with the style I now use for SSR's stuff. Awaiting responses from: Whichever gang Head_P1imp is from Low Riders. Final confirmation from Stunt Masters.
  18. LMAO. Have a look around the "Editing Discussion" area of GTAforums.com to find out quite why I found that so amusing. It should be made very clear that what IJ said is worth shit-all. He's been adamant that my handling and radar would definitly be included in a future version, and trx was impressed by them too and wanted to incorporate them, but nothing has arisen in the months since despite me PM'ing them monthly. I wouldn't mind not having my ideas implemented if they actually said it wouldn't be implemented, that there are so many problems they want to solve first. Instead they just casually commit themselves to everything and sod the public who get thier expectations raised and then dashed at the next release. As for the map downloading system, I can 100% guarantee you that will NEVER be implemented. That truely is a complete guarantee, they will never, ever, do that. It's just too complicated and to anyone who understands the depth of problems caused by modifiable multiplayer using the Vice engine will surely agree. Additionally, Vice DFF architecture is not directly compatible with any other game, and the COL system is unique along with the IMG structure. I can only assume that you are lying about IJS approving these ideas or that he said he approved them just to make you quit hassling him.
  19. Heh the map is just a handy way of gangs keeping track of the HQ they have snapped up right? Hosted and edited by you, thats fine and very handy, nice thread. I dont really see why you need to be consulted about the ladder plans and organisation though? The reason i posted preview news of the upcoming clanbase style ladder in here was to get a sounding from the gangs who have 'claimed' somewhere, not from the threads creator As for incorperating the map, that wont be necessary as we prefer to replace as few vc files as possible so changing the ingame map, especially if hq's are going to be changing hands frequently, is more trouble than its worth. So, cerbera's view is noted, he's decided it wont work already, but for those of you who have expresssed an interest and eagerness for the ladders creation rest assured it is in the pipeline. You posted in here saying that this thread was involved, so I wanted to know how and why. You said that this topic could get involved in something which would mean I would have to radically change the way in which I ran it, so of course I'm not going to change unless the new method is going to be better. Whether you run the ladder seperate to this or not is what I needed to know. I'm not talking about changing the ingame map, I need to know whether I need to update which gang has where in accordance to the results from the games, or whether gangs retain thier actual territory and just get wins or defeats. This is what clarification is, letting people know what exactly is going to happen. Head_P1imp, are you even in a gang?! Boss, I will add SM to the map in the next update. Are you sure about the Malibu though, having to wait for the interior to load before you can see where you are could get frustrating at times... The Vass, it's up to you to find a location. Print off the large version of the image at the start of this thread, then fly all round vice in a helicopter looking for a good place which you gang can defend, preferably which doesn't require an interior loading zone. What is the short version of "Low Riders" btw? How about "_LR_" as the underscores make it look like the base of a car low to the ground and I don't think any other gangs use underscores, so you could identify friendly members easily.
  20. So that would be...where? Toby, I didn't think SSH were listed in the official member list? Please read the thread you are replying in carefully.MrBump, I've seen many gangs use this in the way I've described. I'm guessing that your estimation of how many gangs use it was just plucked out of your imagination, yeah? Ladder, tournament, the point is it's an organised competition. No need for semantics BTW, they stink the place up something awful! As I said before, if you clarify what you are proposing then we could see whether this map can be incorporated into it. At the moment I'm not really sure what it is you are actually proposing. If you have windows messanger, try to capture me over that so we can discuss properly, perhaps?
  21. Interesting idea. This topic isn't "just for fun" though, as I think it says in the first post this is useful for any public games as clans can re-group at a known location and during clan vs clan games the bases are used to assualt and defend. This ladder idea isn't going to work because the MTA:VC community is too casual, imho. As the game is not 100% reliable due to lag and some of the methods the programmers used, people don't trust it enough to stake thier reputation on a ladder tournament using it. Plus it just isn't as fun when you're just playing for petty dominion instead of to just have an enjoyable time. I see a lot of possible problems with this idea, it really needs more clarification before people will commit to it. Vass, it's generally a bad idea to take properties which have interior loading screens, for reasons which have been stated many times in this thread. If your heart is really set on it then I'll let you have it, but it would be much better if you chose a different location.
  22. The car park where the "Cone Crazy" mission is begun by entering the Stallion on the roof, yeah? That location hasn't been taken, but your gang isn't listed in the official gang list. Make sure your gang fits the rules set out for adding yourselves to it, then be sure you update that list if your members change. Once you've made the list, reply back here and I'll add you.
  23. Hahaha, that's a neat way of describing it! Having the whole day means that there will always be a couple of people in there, even if they are from the same gang. Plus it means you can fit in visits to the server around other commitments. Perhaps it is a format which other gangs could adopt? BTW, whose server would we be using? I'm not sure if our one in London is still running. I expect it is...will have to check.
  24. It would be funny because it would be funny...Erm, so what about playing SSR somewhen this or next week? I've managed to get in touch with many of the SSR members who are saying they'd like to do this.
  25. SSR use the thread ladder league area as a "competition" type thread for folks to arrange battles against us. No-one really uses that area though, which is why the suggestion to abandon the league and make it a casual inter-clan area makes a lot of sense to me. Just to let you guys know that SSR would be willing to play you guys. We could do deathmatch or we could share our favourite stunts, maybe a bit of both. I have quite badly limited computer time so the best bet might be to pick a day, preferably not a Sunday, and just have everyone play for as long as they can on that day. Should allow the maximum amount of members of each team to meet each other. Most SSR members are in the UK, so if the USA players could try to get on early in the morning we should be able to get a few hours together. A weekday next week, or perhaps a Saturday might be alright?
