  1. Why do you have to disconnect? Couldn't you just maintain your connection with the server?
  2. Maybe the reason is because IJs actually thinks out of the box, unlike you, eAi. Out of all of the MTA Team members, you deny people's suggestions the most. You give up too quickly. You say these things are impossible. The truth is, if this has ever occured to you, is that they aren't. It is IJs's optimism and tenacity which led him to make the first MTA and come so far with it; if he had given up just because he ran into a roadblock, MTA would not be what it is today. You, on the other hand, could never have done anything because you would have convinced yourself that multiplayer GTA3 is impossible.
  3. Could the character selection menu possibly be built as a local ingame gui, kind of like that serverlist from the teaser video?

    MTA : TDM

Initially I think the TDM concept might be hard for people to accept, so a friendly fire feature might be very useful.
  5. Wouldn't it save bandwidth and reduce load on the server if the character selection sequence was done locally by the client? What I mean is it would be better if the only data that was sent to the server during the character selection sequence was the final choice. This would solve the bug where an actor that is actually a player in character selection mode appears on the radar. When a player dies, he would be desynced from the game when he returns to the character screen. When he makes his choice, this data would be sent to the server, he would be synced into the game again, and he would spawn.
  6. This happened to me quite recently. I was with my family in Europe for a vacation, and one of the places we stopped was Salsburg, Austria. While the tour guide was talking, a large party passed by, headed by armed and armored police officers. In the middle of the group was none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger. He was in Austria because he was attending the Austrian President's funeral on behalf of Bush. We actually encountered him about three times. He drove by us in a large, white Chevy Suburban in Vienna, and we saw him on foot in Salsburg. It was definately Arnold because the Suburban was the largest vehicle on the street. All in all, I was reminded that America is a great country. Just remember, Americans: If a European, especially a Brit, every makes fun of you because you are an American, just remind him or her how better our country is than the entire continent ;-D
  7. Well there are many things that could cause your game to crash. As for your other questions, I suggest that you search because I am too lazy to answer them.
  8. This is a bug and it should be fixed. Killing earns you points in MTA, and manslaughter and murder both fall under killing.
  9. Well, chewEboy, it isn't really fair to compare Half-Life mods and MTA. However, I do agree with you that the MTA Team is too pessimistic. If they can get two Vice City games to talk with each other, then surely they can do anything else they set their mind to. But in regards to Half-Life mods and MTA, the difference is that an SDK, or Studio Developers' Kit, is available for Half-Life. The Half-Life SDK contains a lot of things including models and sprites, but more importantly it contains the essential source code that the modders need to use in order to customize Half-Life. There is no such SDK available for Vice City. Over time, people have learned to mod Vice City to a certain extent, but there is still a lot of stuff that no one has figured out yet. Coding as well as testing takes a long time. What would you rather have, a perfect mod that takes years to release, or a work-in-progress mod that gets released every few months?
  10. The fact that so much has to be done to an XBOX before you can run unofficial software discourages an MTA for the XBOX. Overall, the XBOX is a useless system. There are only a few original games for it because most of them are half-hearted ports of PC or PS2 games. http://maddox.xmission.com/xbox_suckit.html

    MTA 0.4.1 Released

Perhaps now the playing field will be even more level thanks to the bandwidth reduction.
  12. There should be a Linux compatibility package which comes with FreeBSD. Does that not work?
  13. As great as this sounds, I'm not going to do it unless it has been thoroughly examined by the MTA Team.
  14. Pros: The shooting system is much better. I was able to take down three people who were ballet dancing around me with Stubs with ease. My friend and I together popped about five Robbers with almost no difficulty. You can actually hit people who are moving now, which really levels the playing field. I'm not experiencing any of this "lag", but if you can decrease the bandwidth usage a little, I'm sure it will make hitting people even easier. I don't have GTA3, but I may consider looking into it because of the Ammunations and Pay-n'-Sprays that you guys have added. Cons: I understand that 0.4 isn't perfect yet, but it is a significant improvement over 0.3. The synched weather is great, but sometimes it can become annoying because of the sudden changes. As for the cheaters, I have not encountered any yet, but I am still concerned because I know 0.3 required cheaters to rework their cheats. So far so good, MTA Team.
  15. The reason for the downtime is probably due to the large amount of 12-year-old script kiddies showing their appreciation for the MTA Team's excellent work.
  16. I use Coyote. I don't quite understand the situation. What does your boss have to do with how much bandwidth you use at home? Do you mean that your business will be providing your home with wireless access?
  17. Doesn't really matter. Admins set their own rules, and you must follow them if you want to play on that server. Regarding helikilling, it is just fine. It actually adds an interesting element to the game; it adds to the chaos
  18. Indeed you must, as it's impossible for anyone to have a minigum unless YOU also have a hacked around MTA. I guess if you insist you are seeing miniguns then you must in fact be a cheater yourself. Which kind of invalidates any opinions you have, about anything. In my opinion. Or maybe I'm just hallucinating . I know what I saw. My Vice City and MTA installs are both vanilla. Obviously it is not impossible, as you say, because if that were so I would not be seeing ten people being killed by the same person in less than three seconds with a minigun.
  19. There is always the possiblity that the Windows XP Internet Firewall could be preventing you from playing. It used to give me a lot of trouble with other programs before I disabled it.
  20. Well, a format does eliminate the possibility of viruses and spyware; that is of course, unless the virus has managed to get itself into your memory. It could be that your internet connection is going slower than normal.
  21. Bingo. That would be it. This has been mentioned before, but not in its own thread.
  22. Thank god for engrish.com Remember: We are all fuzzy robots.
  23. Shady, I have no idea what the hell you just said. Perhaps this is a reason? Your posts are devoid of anything resembling English. You barely use punctuation, your spelling sucks, and you don't use these lovely things called paragraphs. You sound like some idiot on AOL. Hate to be harsh, but there is no point in expressing your opinion if your message is incomprehensible to everyone else. Maybe we should actually use what we are supposed to learn in school, eh kid?
  24. Tiesto And some disco on the side
  25. Recruitment scam is more like it.
