  1. I hope you are free to play it any way you want to, not just the modes.

There's multiple modes to choose from. All the way from plain DM (as has been shown) to the special modes, like Capture the Whoopie. Anything is really possible.

  3. Maybe SA-MP supporters would be more appropiate, then.

The only people I see that are offended in this thread are you, Posty, and kyeman.

I honestly see nothing wrong with that portion of the interview. How is it taking a jab at VC-MP/SA-MP or related mods (GTA: Rumble and GTA: Tournament)? As JonChappell said earlier, it was directed towards projects that are started and die out in a month or two without ever releasing anything, and as you well know, there have been dozens of them within the past year or so that have done just that. I don't see what else could possibly be implied.

I don't think that's the problem here, though. I'm seeing way too many SA-MP supporters in particular jump at every opportunity they can to flame MTA, especially on this website.

And don't tell me it's not related to SA-MP, because it is. I see no one else in this thread going on about how that quote was so wrong other than beta testers and developers of that mod.

We don't go on your website and bash your project for all it's worth, so why don't you return the favor?

I was never offended by the reply. I simply asked a question as to why it was said like that, and I got a great answer back, BY A TEAM MEMBER. I thanked him and told him that it was clear as to what the intention was. At no point did I say I was offended by it, I was just basically pushing for clarification.

My reply to the interview was not meant to be a flame towards MTA, as I had said. Cray took it in the correct form that my post was meant, and he replied as so. Other people decided to put words into my mouth, kind of like what you're doing. I'm not here to argue, I'm here to comment on things and post when I feel I should.

Whether or not you were offended is irrelevant... you are a beta tester of SA-MP and asked for clarification in their defense. That's fine, though.

My post was directed more towards him selfe who has been trolling in some of the threads on this board lately.

Actually, my post was in no way connected to SA-MP. It was a general statement meant to clarify the interview. Plain and simple. Just because I'm a beta tester for SA-MP doesn't mean all of my posts are influenced by it...

  5. While I don't view MTASA and other mods as competition against each other, I'm guessing you catch my drift as to why I don't like that response. Just in my opinion, it sounds slightly arrogant.

You make an extremely valid point, and I for one didn't even put it together that we were saying something that would shine a negative light on what we think of other mods. I don't want to try and justify the response, since it has already been said, but please understand that it was supposed to sound more like a push to see different TYPES of mods, rather than producing the same results that we are openly targetting. I think with a variety of game modes that each of the mods could target, we could all co-exist together and have a huge fan base individually. Instead, we often (but not always!), have been seeing the same attempts by other teams, over and over again.

Thanks for the clarification on that. The way it was put into the interview, it seemed as if you guys meant it the other way around :P The reason I made the point was because of what it would be interpreted as if not clarified (as it is now).

  6. I like the answers that were given here. Tells us about what's been going on and what some future plans are.

However, one reply that bugged me was

"We don't have a firm stance on multiplayer mods. We've seen them come and go many times. There’s probably been about ten different mods that have been started, and in most cases [they] have fallen apart during the time we've been developing MTA. As such, we take other mods' claims "with a pinch of salt," and keep doing what we do best - making GTA playable online. Obviously, while we're flattered that people feel that imitating MTA is a worthwhile project, we're surprised that people haven't put their time into making other games into multiplayer."

I'm sorry, but I just don't think that one thing is enough. I like the choice to choose between mods for differences in features and gameplay. What you're trying to say, is that Microsoft should go, "Oh, there's allready a gaming console out, lets just stop making ours." Or for Google, "Oh, MSN search is allready being created and developed upon, why don't we just stop." By that logic, there should be one company to do certain things, and there should be no one to compete with. While I don't view MTASA and other mods as competition against each other, I'm guessing you catch my drift as to why I don't like that response. Just in my opinion, it sounds slightly arrogant.

By no means do I mean to start a flame war or a conflict from this, I just thought I'd give my opinion on the interview. For all the other questions, I thought they were answered with much thought and information that users would like to hear. Overall, it's a great interview, but I don't like how that last reply makes you guys sound...

  7. And it is quite a legitimate question to ask.. all your posts since August 2005 have been in the SA-MP thread (with one exception).

Since Augest 2005, I've posted 3 times. Once in someone's thread who asked for help, and 2 in the SA-MP thread. I hardly call that "advertising."

  8. I dont understand why you need to post this information on the MTA forum.

I thought this section was for OTHER MODS and what's going on with them. But obviously this whole entire forum has to be based around MTA

Seriously, the point of the topics in the OTHER MODS (again, not MTA but OTHER MODS) is to update people on the progress and news of other mods being created or that have been released... SA-MP has allready proven a release with VC-MP, so it's topic deserves to be here.

  9. Exclusive interview by GTA Series, including new pics.

Posty, do you only come here to advertise?

Is there a problem with posting news in the thread that's dedicated to this mod's news? I never knew that it was against the rules to post about news in the mod's thread  No, I don't come here to advertise. I post when I feel like it, and that's that. I just don't post very often at all.

When I notice there's news that hasn't been posted in the threads, I'll post it. It's that simple Jon, I don't understand where you're getting at. I never knew it was against the rules to post news though, so I'll stop posting updates.

    :D

  10. Well buddy, there's more than one type of mod :P There's texture editing, scm coding, direct x modding, creating actual programs (such as MTA), modeling, and more. You need to be a bit more specific if you wish to get help ;)

  11. News.

SA:MP direction change (Multiplayer co-op) by kyeman on 03 Sep 2005

Over the past few months we've been working on getting elements of San Andreas PC synced across a network for our multiplayer mod. Up until now we had not firmly decided what style of gameplay we would be aiming for.

At the beginning of this mod's development, I asked members of the small community we had at the time if they'd prefer deathmatch or MMO. Most people responded that they would prefer MMO style gameplay. Due to the nature of the way we write this modification, I later determined that an MMO would not be achievable for our team. We've mostly been developing with the thought that we would design some type of deathmatch/objective based system.

GTA: San Andreas is a difficult game to work with when deciding what type of gameplay will be suitable, fun, unique, and interesting. I personally was never convinced that a deathmatch, in such a large playground, would lead to any unique or interesting multiplayer experiences.

After talking with key members of the SA:MP team today, it has been decided that we will pursue a multiplayer co-op for SA:MP. Here are the full specs of what we intend to do:

    > Network multiplayer co-op mode for GTA:San Andreas allowing upto 6 players.

    > Synced pedestrians and pedestrian vehicles.

    > Synced trains, time, weather etc.

    > Playable co-operative missions against AI opponents.

    > A master client model instead of a dedicated server model.

    > An opportunity to sync some of the San Andreas elements, such as minigames, that would have been extremely difficult in a deathmatch/dedicated server model.

In a few words, we hope to bring a similar co-op experience to the PC that the XBox and ps2 versions had, but with no player boundries and more players within the world.

  12. if this sort of thing was left to a serve configuration file, would it be easy to make it so said file can be stored on non-local locations (ie: a file on a site)

Hmm, I'm not sure I get your question, but I'll try. The configuration file(s) will be in the server directory (ie weapons.conf). If you want to share your configurationfile with other admins, you can upload it somewhere, so other admins can download it and put it in their server directory. I don't know if we'll support server "profiles".

Yea, what he means is that, can you set the server to a link where he has uploaded the edited files, so that server runners don't have to keep the files on their computer.
