  1. I get that error from time to time also, which is resolved by a reboot (or forcing explorer.exe to close the run a new explorer.exe). Perhaps you could have tried the reboot before posting?
  2. or.... http://game-monitor.com/search.php?search=&type=server&game=mta&country=all
  3. Can you type the message so we can see it? EDIT: Or SEARCH the forum for your error message...
  4. That is the whole point of a format. Unfortunately, most people don't realise that a format is not a 'complete' fresh start for a disk, hence my comments on partition and MBR... lmao wot? Just have 2 partitions; one for windows and another for data/games etc. Whether this is on a single disk or a disk for each, means no dvd backup anyway... you only need smartdrv if your installing NT/2000/XP using a Win98 boot diskette/cdrom and that's usually done by people who have a pirate copy that doesn't have the NT/2000/XP boot loader agreed!
  5. Nice one Finn, but this isn't enabled by default. If you had a CLEAN install then surely this problem wouldn't have occured, right? EDIT: It's not the best way to make a COMPLETELY clean install, no. If you were needing that you would use FDISK from Win98 CD/floppy to remove the partition THEN reboot, use FDISK /MBR to clear the Master Boot Record. Then install OS with the install CD from boot, which will create a new partition. But this is all besides the point really
  6. lol I think you misunderstood dude - my question was to the poster lmao We dont actually know at this stage if his PC and his friends pc is working successfully i.e. connecting to the net simultaneously with his particular setup. Frends PC may just have been connected up for the first time to the poster's router DOomSwitch, what exactly are the symptoms? Does the 2nd PC get the serverlist? If so is there an error when you try to connect? Thanx
  7. How do you know this? Are you the friend he mentioned?
  8. Well it's worth a try... And maybe this also... - whilst in game when the symptoms show, unplug your mouse. Then plug it in again - In your BIOS, look for a setting that controls USB or USB Mouse; it should have choice of BIOS or OS. Change to other one. (Mine's Award Bios USB Mouse Support via: BIOS or OS) Page 2 on Google result only makes me more determined to understand this one Did the forum that you found the fix for mention anything that could lead to the cause? They must have had some idea in order to suggest compatibility mode for this particular issue...
  9. both computers can browse the web simultaneously when connected to same router yes?
  10. Hi Finn, I remember your original post http://forum.mtavc.com/viewtopic.php?t=15662 Seeing as this is quite a difficult issue to resolve, can we check/try a couple of things? 1) Start>Run>dxdiag and go to the Input tab. Any problems listed? 2) a) Start Windows in Safe Mode b) Go to Device Manager and remove ALL mice (whether or not more than one shows) c) Unplug the mouse and use keyboard to restart your PC d) After Windows has loaded to desktop, plug in your mouse Any difference? Couple of other things to ask of you so we get more of the picture... - Apart from having to run GTA single player in compatibility mode, is there any other wierd behaviour with your mouse in other apps or Windows generally? - When you reformatted/re-installed, did you do a fresh install of GTASA and MTASA? - I know it's a basic mouse, but are you using any special utilties for it or changed any default settings in Control Panel>Mouse? Cheers
  11. Perhaps he means just the .exe Warbandit, search this forum for your error message.. Thats' all the help you need (and will probably get lol)
  12. Lol Jakk, if only you mentioned that before. he he you gave a pretty overall picture that your system was clean... and I got told off once for mentioning viruses to another forum user so I didn't ask too many questions and took your word as gospel Anways, that along with your temp which is pretty high (CPU's slow down as they get too high (a P4 can run wihtout a heatsink - but runs like a dog)) so yes, clean those fans/vents and a clean install should do you fine with your spec. If anything, you have probably learnt a few tips how to diagnose and fix possible issues in the future. Best of luck with your clean rebuild anyway. Wear some sort of mask so you dont' breathe in all that dust! EDIT: BTW, I use Norton Ghost to make a full image backup of my C Drive just after an install of Windows, all my apps and settings. This saves a lot of time and allows me to test all sorts of junk and not panic when I have issues. Simply restore back to clean build when needed.
  13. So after that one race, you rebooted yes? If so its sounds as though the application that is starting up is not liking the way you are disabling it. For example, if you are forcing the removal of the startup via some utility like System Mechanic (or MSCONFIG) then it could be that the application is putting itself back in on reboot - 'cos it's clever/a pain! MSN Messenger does this... Use the options within the actual application to stop it from starting up instead, if you can. Otherwise supply the name of the application here so we can help further. It sounds as though it's a pretty heavy app if it's cuasing these issues on your spec PC, particularly with your following statement: Athough it's not looking like a temperature issue now, FYI the temperatures can be found several ways: Mainboard and CPU temps can found in the BIOS or if the motherboard CD-ROM has a utility to monitor them, you can install it in Windows (but hardly worth it if system is not suffering temp issues). Your ATI Graphics card temp can be found in the Cataylst Control Centre ATI Overdrive Settings although not all ATI cards may have temperature monitoring.... lol, sorry but I thought you had this sorted. From your original post: he he Sounds like we're getting there tho....
  14. Just seen Jakk in MTASA. Suggested the following also: - Check/Update chipset drivers - Check CPU/Mainboard and Graphics Temperatures aren't excessively high
  15. Lol posting the solution is only good if they post the problem too! Lol again... when users have things like bearshare, BitComet, PeerGuardian apps on their PC's its little wonder they have issues...
  16. Does your hard disk light flash at the time as the jolts occur?
  17. This is because the WHQL drivers dont come bumdled with the Cataylst Control Center. Maybe try the very latest drivers from the ATI website which does inclide it. If anything, it's another driver to try to see if problems follow... Run this anway and check all the tabs - if there are any problems that DirectX finds, they will show somewhere here. Hmmm.... tricky one this, so far Right-click "My Computer", select "Manage" then expand the "Event Viewer". You want to be looking in "Application" and "System" for anything, particularly around the time when you started to get these issues. If you are getting problems in other games aswell, then I would expect something to show in the "System" log - but I wont be suprised if we don't get any clues from there.... Non Microsoft products dont always ustilise the event log as well as we sometimes need. I've had a few issues in the past (strange behaviour in games or game crashing are the symptoms) this is where ATI drivers dont uninstall properly so I have had to use a tool to force removal AND stop Windows File Protection restoring older files that conflicy with the rest of the driver bundle. This tool is called Driver Cleaner Pro - but you have to ensure all the files are removed (especially from the .CAB files) to ensure that you get a clean install of your latest/current driver. It's just another thing to try if you want to give it a go http://www.drivercleaner.net
  18. ...or maybe check the event log to see if any issues reported (particularly with a couple of weeks ago)
  19. K, have you tried uninstalling both MTASA and GTA? Freshly installing both? Full install of GTA to hard disk
  20. ok, did anything get changed a couple of weeks ago? Also, is your PC overclocked?
  21. ok do the symptoms still show?
  22. yeah, give it a try lets see what you get....
  23. ok, go to windows update and use it to get the latest WHQL driver for your ATI card. Or use Device Manager and update the driver there. For now, dont use the ATI website, this will ensure you get the microsoft certified driver....
  24. Do you know what version of drivers you are using for your ATI card? And can we assume the game works fine in single player? Also, has this problem recently started to happen or has it always done it? Thanks
  25. I agree. There have been some issues with gameplay after installing MTASA that have been linked to drivers. So if you have a good spec PC with the latest official drivers for your graphics card, then all should be ok.
