  1. I would like to direct the network coders of MTA to this page http://www.openskies.net/papers/papers.html
  2. I cant imagine why you wouldn't want to save your bandwidth at this site..? Even just a newsletter once a month, a "State of the Union", if you will, would suffice. My two cents.
  3. A long time ago, was there not a sign up for an MTA mailing list? I believe that I have yet to get such mail from that list. Maybe I signed up wrong...? I'd certainly like to see weekly mail updates straight from the developers so that lazy people like me can have updates without scouring the forums and ignoring all the worthless garble about when/what questions, and have a solid answer from those that know. If that sign up for a mailing list was imagined or since deleted, start another one [or sign me up]! I'd love to have access to current information on the project.
  4. So, after all the input, does this sounds feasible from a coding standpoint? Its obvious that this sounds like a good way to have things set up, but can it be done?
  5. There's nothing stopping the race mapper from only placing 2 waypoints..
  6. "Race" This will simplify the 'race' challenge. Have a hotkey to send a message to everyone saying "Race Mode Started" Then the person that has invoked this can travel along and drop off nice waypoints such as those found in "Bling Bling Scramble". When they are done, it sends a message that the race will start (at the first waypoint) when some arbitrary number of people show up. Then they will have to follow all the waypoints in order as a type of race. The first person to collect all waypoints and end up at the finish will win. Then the process can start over. Sound good? Possible? Let me know something.
  7. Might I point you to the source code and tutorial found at http://193.111.198.91/ It shows how to hook into games and draw overtop of them using OpenGL, as well as various other things.
  8. I have MTA + Win98 version mirrored at ftp://mta:[email protected]/
  9. Both Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City use the Renderware Engine. The Vice City engine has certain 'tweaks' that allow more visually stimulating effects (especially for PC) that allow things like more detailed models, and larger texture sizes. At the heart, they are the same. The Vice City engine 'upgrade' is really just newer.
  10. I dont see how the problem with lag is caused locally. I can run GTA3 on my P2 350 with 64MB of RAM and a GF2 MX400 with no 'lag' at all. Maybe you just have connection problems.
  11. Thanks. I am well aware how to use it. Should be made a sticky + add to FAQ.
  12. Searching the forum for the official IRC server yeilded pages and pages of nothing. I know it was in the news earler, but I was unable to search through older posts. It didn't show in the FAQ (it should have) Can anyone please post the official IRC server/channel? Thanks.
  13. I would still like to offer my help with the project.
  14. Using non-synced cars/guns really causes a problem, and eventually a crash. Beware.
  15. Anyone experiencing "Run Time Error : 10057 : Socket not connected", please give me your system specs. I think I have confirmed the origination of this error.
  16. Besides rewriting the physics system, no.
  17. This crash is when GTA3 performs invalid physics interactions operations. Basically de-sync ing of clients causing strange collisions that would not normally happen, causing the game to crash.
  18. Finally got internet working really good. Only thing though, a lot of others were obviously not transmitting data well, their position liked to skip back and forth (as if lagging). Other users showed up perfect. Still buggy, but it works, and thats all that matters really.
  19. I believe this is why you are looking for C++ coders to help convert the code to a single language. I have volunteered to help with this as well.
  20. Just so I feel better, can you edit your posts to say if you are talking about my layout, or the current? Better yet, add your reviews of both.. This is still a work in progress, and only a suggestion to what future versions can/should look like. I welcome your inputs/suggestions.
  21. No, I dont think that is the solution. The load error is not fixed by a 'no-cd' patch. You can take the audio files from the cd and put them on your harddrive, and bypass using the cd at all (added support with v1.1), so the no-cd patch would be utterly pointless.
  22. Thats what the status at the bottom right is for (designed to change colors based on state)
  23. Not sure what kind of fiber optic 56k you've been on to allow 64 player games of Battlefield....but if you say so.. My 2mbit down 384 up can only handle good 32 person games I don't consider this playable..
  24. Windows 98 stable? Are you on crack? I know of like 10 ways easy to crash it in under 2 seconds. Surely, you are thinking of 2000, or some other operating system.. On a side note, I think I've only crashed my XP box maybe 3-4 times tops. And thats because I was trying to. Normally it has an uptime of weeks between reboots. Seriously, buy a new harddrive or something and get XP Pro OEM (or at least Win2000) for like 150 insead of that ludicrous retail price.
  25. I think this is covered. I wasn't going for l33t graphics and a cool skin. More for compactness and functionality. Again, if you would like the exe to see the rest, send a message my way.
